Acclaimed saxophonist James Carter brings his Quintet to the New Hazlett Theater for Kente Arts for a Tribute to Rahsaan Roland Kirk.
Carter has won DownBeat magazine's Critics and Readers Choice award for baritone saxophone several years in a row, has a mastery of most any saxophone as well as bass clarinet and flute. He has performed, toured and played on albums with Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis, Kathleen Battle, Cyrus Chestnut and many others.
He has performed, toured and played on albums with the best including Marsalis, opera star Kathleen Battle, Dee Dee Bridgewater and the Mingus Big Band.
In his Pittsburgh performance, Carter will pay tribute to Rahsaan Roland Kirk who is arguably one of the most exciting saxophone soloists in jazz history.
