Jazz Poetry Month At City of Asylum / Alphabet City, North Side
City of Asylum’s 15th-annual Jazz Poetry Festival presents free concerts featuring all-star collaborations between over twenty jazz and literary artists from thirteen different countries throughout September. Mixing languages, music, and live performance, these are unique rehearsed collaborations by some of the world’s most extraordinary talents.

Jazz Poetry Month presents eight days of esteemed poets, including 2018 National Book Award Winner Justin Phillip Reed, and Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets, Alicia Ostriker.

Nicole Mitchell, world-renowned flutist and University of Pittsburgh’s incoming Jazz Studies Chair, makes her local debut performance at Alphabet City on September 15.
The Possible 4 will present a never-before-seen collaboration between internationally acclaimed jazz musicians, making their Pittsburgh debut with three unique performances on September 26, 27, and 28.
Founding Jazz Poetry artist Oliver Lake will return to City of Asylum @ Alphabet City for his 15th appearance at the festival.
