Kate Borger's Rhythm a ning, from Paris to Rio, to Austin and Kansas City!

Rhythm-a-ning with Kate Borger, Friday morning at 10 and Saturday at 11 has sounds this week Willie Nelson and Wynton to Sonny Rollins and Charlie Parker.

The smooth melody of La Vie en Rose to the pulse of Chega de Saudade. Mary Lou Williams’ associate Andy Kirk’s 12 Clouds of Joy float in for a spell, too, and a dollop of charm from Blossom Dearie, too.

Rhythm-a-ning is a new radio show on WZUM hosted by our weekday morning host, Kate Borger, who brings with her more than 25 years of radio host/deejay experience working with an eclectic mix of musical styles.

Blossom Dearie

While primarily a jazz mix, “Rhythm-a-ning” is inspired by Kate’s belief that music from anywhere in the world and from any genre can be a happy, joyous and uplifting experience for the listener.  It could easily have been called “My Favorite Things” or “The Health and Happiness Show” (after Hank Williams, Sr’s 1949 radio program), but Rhythm-a-ning is taken from the Thelonious Monk song that just seems to capture the joy and eccentricity of the mix.

You can hear Rhythm-a-ning on Friday mornings at 10 a.m. and then again on Saturday mornings from 11 until 12 noon.
