Piano Day Pittsburgh 2018 - 4 stages, 4 grand pianos, music all day

This is the third year of Piano Day, Pittsburgh. An all-volunteer event celebrating the piano, pianists, and music in Pittsburgh. It started as a one-piano event two years ago, the brainchild of pianist and piano technician Peter Stumpf.

Last year, a 9 foot Steinway went onto a trailer and brought music all around Pittsburgh, from downtown to Mt. Washington and more.

This year, there was a "trailer" trip on August 8 (8/8 for fans of 88 keys). The main event is this Sunday on three outdoor stages in downtown Pittsburgh. Heinz Hall will feature classical performances, Market Square will welcome a variety of genres, especially pop and rock, and Katz Plaza will feature Jazz. Sunday, August 26 from noon until 8pm (9pm at Heinz Hall). There will also be a fourth piano, available for anyone to play, on a stage outdoors at PPG Place.

WZUM is a media sponsor, focused on the Katz Plaza stage. Scores of artists and other critical places and people are donated time, services and equipment to make this celebration of the Piano and Pittsburgh possible.
