Pittsburgh's Winter Jazz Scene Heats up
This week on “The Scene,” Scott Hanley was going to do more about the second annual Jazz Congress at Jazz at Lincoln Center, but after further consideration, there’s so much going on in Pittsburgh, we needed to put some more spotlight on the Steel City angle.
This was prompted by the 15th anniversary of “JazzLive” in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District, presented by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.
It was a delightful night in celebration of 15 years of JazzLive in the cultural district, led by drummer Roger Humphries Sr and the RH Factor, featuring Max Leake, piano; Dwayne Dolphin, bass; James Moore, trumpet; and Lou Stellute, tenor sax.
Then, MANY guests, including:
Thomas Wendt; Lynn Gruenewald Speakman; George Jones; Tania Grubbs; Jeff Grubbs; Reggie Watkins; Jevon Rushton; Frederick Pugh; Ken Karsh; Kenia; Tony DePaolis; Don Aliquo Sr; Paul Cosentino; George Heid, plus Geert Chatrou - a Whistler from Cirque du Soleil (he's from the Netherlands and is just in town this week!)
On the show, we feature people in town or coming to town: Roger Humphries and the RH Factor, Kenia, the Bad Plus, Frank Vignola, Gregory Porter, and more. Plus, there’s so many amazing things coming, too!
We have a jazz scene in Pittsburgh - we call this show “The Scene,” but really, it’s up to you to make it happen.
Check out Jazz Central for highlights of jazz in Pittsburgh. Live jazz, with real artists at places you can go to.
Listen to an hour of this Thursday nights at 6, Sunday nights at 5 on WZUM!
