Unheard Treasures on the MCG Jazz Spotlight Hour - Friday and Sunday Night at 6, Saturday at 1

The MCG Jazz Spotlight shines on recordings that may not get as much attention - Marty Ashby and Renée Govanucci share stories and wonderful music from Count Basie with a mystery singer, Donald Byrd with Strings.

Also, guitarist Hank Garland - a notable country and rock and roll guitarist of the 1950’s who had a million selling country record at age 18 and was later featured on several hits by Elvis Presley. He also worked with Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee, Mel Tillis, Roy Orbison and more.

Garland made a phenomenal jazz album in 1960 with a very young Gary Burton, but Garland’s rich musical path was cut short after a serious auto accident in 1961.

Renée and Marty have even more musical mysteries and discoveries on the list
