Kenny Garrett, from Ellington to Miles, from the past to the present and beyond- The Scene, Thursday at 6, Sunday at 5

This time, a chat with Saxophonist Kenny Garrett, coming to the Greer Cabaret as presented by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust BNY Mellon JazzLive series — Tuesday June 4th

Kenny talks about his sudden leap from graduating high School in Detroit to years on the road with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, and a jazz journey that took him to years with Miles Davis, bands and projects with Pat Metheny, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard and much more.

We also talk to Dr. Harry Clark, jazz and education leader, about Lighthouse Arts, a non-profit focused on spreading music and understanding of music - as well as raising the awareness of the jazz greats in our midst.

We’ll also hear music from Aaron Goldberg - the pianist comes to MCGJazz for a single night show on Saturday, June 1.

We’ll play much music, and give out the phone number for your pledge for WZUM, too (hint - it’s 412.322.1800).

The Scene - Thursdays at 6pm, Sundays at 5pm on WZUM.
