Moon Maiden from Duke Ellington on ABC News, 1969
1969 was the year that the Nixon White House honored Duke Ellington with an all star concert that also featured Paul Desmond Dave Brubeck, Clark Terry, Hank Jones, Joe Williams, J.J. Johnson, Jim Hall, and Milt Hinton, Gerry Mulligan and others. It was also the year, of course, of the landing on the moon by humans.
Frank Reynolds was the news anchor for ABC World News Tonight at the time of Apollo 11 - and while other, bigger TV networks were interviewing experts and playing with models of spacecraft, ABC brought in Duke Ellington to perform, and sing, Moon Maiden.
