Jane Monheit, Bobby Watson and Badi Assad on the Pittsburgh Jazz Scene
220 plus
That’s how many jazz events we’ve counted, so far, for January 2020. February will be similar busy.
This week, we get the chance to talk with saxophonist and educator Bobby Watson about his upcoming show with the band Horizon at the Greer Cabaret, February 11th as presented by BNY Mellon JazzLive. We talked about music, Art Blakey, Education - and a special shoutout by Bobby for Roger Humphries, too!
Vocalist Jane Monheit has been a jazz notable since her impressive runner up status at the Thelonious Monk vocal jazz competition about 20 years ago (the year the late Terri Thornton was crowned the winner - and the other runners-up were Tierney Sutton and Roberta Gambarini). Jane is coming to the Greer Cabaret February 10 for the cabaret show Hollywoodland. We talk about her first record, which included David Fathead Newman, Hank Crawford and Kenny Barron, plus her great desire to learn more and more of the great American songbook.
We’ll also play some music from the astounding Brazilian guitarist, vocalist and mouth percussionist Badi Assad, coming to Uptown at the Gist Studio on February 2nd.
The Scene - Thursdays at 6pm, Friday at Saturdays at noon, Sundays at 5pm on WZUM.
