Autumnal Jazz in Distanced times - Thomas Wendt, John Shannon, Benny Benack III, the USAF Airmen of Note and Seth McFarlane
It has been 8 months since we started to socially isolate to reduce the spread of COVID-19. In the music scene, there has been loss and adaptation.
This week, we speak with two members of the jazz scene on how they have been working through the challenges - and working with others in the midst of a very different landscape from last year - Guitarist and partner in the club Con Alma, John Shannon, and drummer and jazz advocate Thomas Wendt. We’ll also hear some music from Benny Benack III who will be back in Pittsburgh this weekend for live and online performances.
This is the week of Veterans Day, and we check out some sounds from the new release by the US Air Force Airmen of Note. Plus a new release from TV Showrunner, the voice and creator behind the cartoon series Family Guy (he’s also the star and producer of the Sci Fi TV show, “the Orville.”). Seth’s new CD is filled with swinging standards and ballads with outstanding backing band.
The Scene - Thursday night at 6, Sunday night at 5 and Friday and Saturday at noon on WZUM.
