The Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival, Online - plus in person jazz is tiptoeing back in, too!

The tenth anniversary of the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival comes with an online-only event, Saturday June 20 from noon to 6 with an all-star lineup, through the world of the internet. Janis Burley Wilson of the August Wilson African American Cultural Center gives us some details.

The Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival Live Online, is a free special event that will stream live on Saturday, June 20 at 12p.m. on the Center’s website and Facebook page.

The virtual event, curated in collaboration with award-winning musician Sean Jones, will feature legendary jazz musicians from around the world, including Jones, Orrin Evans, Dianne Reeves, The Bad Plus, Laurin Talese, Jeff Watts, Brett Williams, Lakecia Benjamin, Joe Locke and more.

The event will also include a live performance by local Pittsburgh artists, special tributes, and a look back at archival interviews and footage from the Festival’s first 10 years.

Live Jazz is slowing making it’s comeback around Pittsburgh - we visit with John Shannon about Con Alma’s new strategy - and note some other re-openings, too.

On the radio, we’ll hear music from Diane Reeves, Joe Locke, Orrin Evans, Sean Jones, Jazzmeia Horn, the Balcony Big Band, Anton DeFade, John Shannon, Antonio Croes and James Johnson III, plus a sneak previous of a newly released recording by recently departed Jazz Master, Jimmy Heath.
