This week, a dip into the deep pool of recordings by guitarist and educator Kenny Burrell.

A 2005 NEA Jazz Master, Burrell made his first professional recording in 1951 with Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, Percy Heath and Milt Jackson. Since then, he has has appeared on several hundred recordings, including nearly one hundred as a bandleader in a discography that includes iconic jazz labels like Blue Note, Prestige, Savoy, Columbia, Verve, Fantasy and Concord and more.

We hear Kenny talk about his life and career from his NEA Jazz Masters oral history at the Smithsonian, and enjoy sounds from his long career that started in Detroit and took him all over the world.

Join Marty Ashby and Renée Govanucci with a musical appreciation of Kenny Burrell in the MCG Jazz Spotlight - Friday and Sunday at 6, Saturday at 1pm.
