MCG Jazz - This Week in Jazz History
Mid-September has had notable marks on the calendar for jazz over the years.
September 1955, Pittsburgh’s Erroll Garner gave the concert that became the best-selling album, “Concert by the Sea.”
September 1937 was a time for groundbreaking recordings by a young Billie Holiday, and in September 1962, Duke Ellington went into the studio for a awe-inspiring recording session, “Money Jungle,” with Charles Mingus and Max Roach.
We also commemorate the September birthdays of Chu Berry, Charlie Parker, Charlie Byrd, Emily Remler, Joe Venutti, Cannonball Adderley and Jon Hendricks.
Join MCG Jazz Spotlight Show hosts Marty Ashby and Renée Govanucci -Friday and Sunday at 6:00 pm and Saturday at 1:00 pm.
