Remembering Pat Martino, Hill Jordan, and a welcome return to Chris Hemingway
The news last week of the death, at age 50, of Pittsburgh trombonist and bandleader Hill Jordan had much of the music community reeling, and preparing for a memorial concert and services November 5 and 6. Then, word of the passing in South Philadelphia of guitarist Pat Martino was cause for more remembrance of a musical friend and icon.
This week, we play music to remember, and celebrate, and also visit with trombonist and bandleader Reggie Watkins about his friend and contemporary Hill “Hilly” Jordan, plus appreciate the return of saxophonist Chris Hemingway for a 3 day musical visit.
That, and music of more artist on the scene this week - Nnenna Freelon and Take 6 at MCGJazz, saxophonist Jim Snidero at Con Alma, Downtown. and a Pat Martino feature with Pittsburgh’s Gene Ludwig at the Hammond B3.
The Scene - Thursdays at 6pm, Friday at Saturdays at noon, Sundays at 5pm on WZUM.
