More Jazz to Appreciate in April - with Hugo Cruz, Terri Bell
Jazz Appreciation Month is April - and WZUM, where we appreciate jazz every day and night, there’s even more things to celebrate.
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has added more jazz for Tuesdays, downtown, including some “edutainment” with drummers Thomas Wendt and Hugo Cruz, blending live performance with some multimedia for a special way to learn and appreciate even more about jazz.
We visit with Terri Bell, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Community Engagement for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust to get some details, and more on the special concert at the end of April with pianist Christian Sands at the Greer Cabaret.
Also a chat with drummer and bandleader Hugo Cruz - who will give a live show and share about the history of Cuban Jazz at the backstage Bar in Theater Square, Tuesday April 12 from 5-7pm. Hugo also has a new CD just out - featuring a blend of jazz artists from Pittsburgh, Cuba and more.
And we look at what’s in store in April jazz for Pittsburgh - which Jazz Central tells us is A LOT!
Hear sounds from Michael Weiss, Bill Heid, Kenny Blake, Vanessa Rubin and Kat Edmonson - all with special appearances during Jazz Appreciation Month.
The SCENE on WZUM - Thursday at 6, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday afternoon at 5 on the Pittsburgh Jazz Channel.
