Stephen Phillip Harvey is a native of Rochester, PA, now living in Maryland, but back home for a special concert for the launch of his new Jazz Orchestra release, SMASH!

Joining in for the concert on July 8 at the Oaks Theater in Oakmont will be trumpeter Sean Jones. While both Jones and Harvey have connections to Western PA, they also both have ties to the jazz and music programs at Youngstown State.

The new release by the Stephen Phillip Harvey Jazz Orchestra is based on Harvey’s passion for music as well as superheroes and comics - hence the titles like “Vigilante,” “Nefarious Plots” and the title track which are all befitting supers. The CD was recorded in Pittsburgh with many of the best players in the Pittsburgh region and Northeast Ohio - including reeds by Bobby Selvaggio, Jason Kush and Clint Bleil, bassist Vinny Vivacqua, trumpeter JD Chaisson and pianist Alex Ayers.
