A New Jazz Release Potpourri on the Scene on WZUM
There are a lot of new jazz releases out - and many with a Pittsburgh connection - we play a few of them this time around on the SCENE
It includes the new release by Eli Naragon - called “Homage” - which has a CD Release event Friday night a Con Alma at 10. The recording includes Roger Humphries, Sr on drums, Tommy Lehman on trumpet, Theron Brown on piano, Jeff Bush on trombone, Chris Coles on saxophone, and an appearance by percussionist Jamey Haddad. Many of those same artists will be at the Lighthouse Arts event Sunday night at City of Asylum / Alphabet City on the North Side with three Generations of Pittsburgh Jazz notables.
Pittsburgh area native, drummer and radio host Jae Sinnett has a new release out - recorded with a symphony orchestra in his adopted home base of Norfolk, VA (where he is a very successful jazz radio host). It also features saxophonist Steve Wilson and piano and arrangements by Allen Farnham.
We also hear from Samara Joy’s new one, Linger Awhile; Jared Sims of WVU’s Jazz program with a new funk-connected band release called DUOCHROME.
Plus new ones from Eliane Elias, Ron Carter and the WDR Big Band, Spike Wilner (of Smalls in NYC fame) and more.
