Terri Lyne Carrington on the Scene on WZUM
Percussionist, professor, bandleader, composer and producer Terri Lyne Carrington plays Saturday night with her band Social Science at the Playhouse at Point Park, downtown March 18. Her new release of compositions - “New Standards” - by women composers just won her another Grammy. She was also on the grammy winner for the Wayne Shorter live recording “From the Detroit Jazz Festival” which honored the master before his passing weeks ago.
We visit with Terri Lyne about all her projects, and about her early times as a youth playing with trumpeter Clark Terry.
Also, music from vibraphonist Steve Nelson with George Shearing from several years ago. Steve Nelson comes home to Pittsburgh for a show at the New Hazlett Theater, March 25. Also, we hear another vibraphonist - Chien Chien Lu brings a different sounds from her instrument in a new project with Pittsburgh’s Richie Goods, Connected.
