Bassist Richie Goods and trombonist Emmett Goods are brothers. They came up through Pittsburgh’s jazz and music culture - but moved away years ago.

They return for a double-bill performance Friday August 4th at the South Park Amphitheater collaboration with MCG Jazz. Richie Goods has a new release out with vibraphonist Chien Chien Lu (Connected), and Emmet just released a brand new one called “Another Level.” We hear music from both records, and also talk with Emmett about Pittsburgh, Jazz, Trombones and his work as a music professor in Rhode Island.

Also, we remember groundbreaking vocalist, educator and visual artist Betty Douglas, who died earlier this month at the age of 92. We’ll hear Betty Douglas on vocals. Rex Trimm on bass clarinet and tenor sax on a tune by Tadd Dameron, If You Could See Me Now.

We also share music from Jay Hoggard - among the featured performers Saturday night July 29 with the CDS Quartet to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Pittsburgh’s Jazz Workshop, Inc. - pianist/vocalist Mala Waldron, drummer Bobby Sanabria, vibraphonist Jay Hoggard and Pittsburgh native (now in New York), bassist Christopher Dean Sullivan.

Also, and a new release from Pittsburgh almost-native Allan Harris. And we share news from guitarist Gene Bertoncini who has moved from his longtime apartment in Manhattan to a place at the Actors Fund Home in Englewood New Jersey. His still playing, and has a gig set for Blues Alley in August. We didn’t record that chat - but 30 years ago, Gene and I recorded some music - we’ll play a cut, and also share his memories of working in New York, in studios and on the Tonight Show.
