A New Step for Kelly and Strayhorn with Hugo Cruz on the Scene
Cuban-born percussionist and now Pittsburgh stalwart Hugo Cruz has been chosen to lead the music for the annual Suite Life fundraiser and celebration at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater in East Liberty, with new Cuban-based rhythms added to the sounds, beats and movements celebration namesakes Billy Strayhorn and Gene Kelly.
We visit with Hugo about the program, which will feature well-loved sounds with a number of new beats and perspectives added to the mix. The Suite Life concert is Saturday, November 30th at the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater at 7:30, plus a special VIP Soundcheck event at 5:30 that night. Players will include Chantal Joseph - vocals, Brian Stahurski - bass, Joe Sheehan - keys, Degnis Bofill - percussion, and Mike Tomaro - sax. There will also be dance and images and theatrical experiences as a part of the night.
