The Soul Show comes to WZUM, starting October 8, 2022.
WZUM, the Pittsburgh Jazz Channel has a new addition to the lineup: the Soul Show hosted and produced by Michael Canton. The Soul Show will air Saturdays, 2-5pm, just after the MCG Jazz Spotlight Show.
According to program host and producer Mike Canton, “The Soul Show continues, and is now back on the Pittsburgh airwaves. I have admired the mission of Pittsburgh Public Media since its inception, and it is an honor to be part of the programming team. Also, as many of you know, my goal is always to preserve the legacy of The Soul Show’s founders, my friends Don Patterson and Stef Chatman. Onward and forever.”
"The music of the Soul Show is very jazz-adjacent and the artists and local activities that Michael shares on the program have a great deal of crossover with WZUM’s mission in the region," says Chuck Leavens, President and CEO of Pittsburgh Public Media, non-profit the owner of public radio station WZUM
"It’s exciting for us to join our efforts with Michael Canton,” according to Scott Hanley, General Manager of WZUM. “We and Michael have often crossed paths and shared interests in supporting the scene in Pittsburgh. This chance to collaborate and create even more synergy is a great opportunity all around."
WZUM is a public radio service for the Pittsburgh region on three signals and online at www.wzum.org. Radio signals come from Braddock at AM 1550, 101.1FM in Pittsburgh and 88.1 FM from Bethany West Virginia, serving the Ohio Valley. WZUM is owned by Pittsburgh Public Media, a 501c3 public charity which operates primarily from listener support.
The Soul Show presents decades of R&B, jazz fusion and other related genres in its weekly mix. It is a natural extension of WZUM’s rich jazz mission.
