WZUM AM on the Pittsburgh FM Dial

Since a 2011 Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ruling, AM stations have been allowed to rebroadcast their programming on FM signals called "Translators." This can greatly enhance the local service of stations like WZUM AM.

But, in large markets like Pittsburgh, new FM signals are very hard to come by. Thanks to diligent technical and legal work by the leadership of Pittsburgh Public Media (PPM), plus generous support from the community, WZUM has acquired this rare and special authorization from the FCC.

WZUM AM Signal Enhancement with 101.1 FM

WZUM AM Signal Enhancement with 101.1 FM

In 2017, Pittsburgh Public Media finalized an agreement for an FM signal to serve Braddock and the heart of Pittsburgh. At 101.1 FM, this signal has been authorized to provide a dramatic improvement to PPM's FM coverage for the Pittsburgh area - serving more than a million potential listeners. We plan to have it on the air this fall.

The FCC has given PPM a limited time to complete construction, so additional support from the community is especially important, now!  Make a contribution to WZUM, online, or send a check to:
