Allan Harris, Fred Hersch, Kenia, Tim Berne - Bringing Spring on the Pittsburgh Scene
The Scene in Pittsburgh for March has more than 200 jazz engagements as seen on Jazz Central.
The creativity and diversity is remarkable: a new work being premiered at East Liberty Presbyterian Church by vibraphonist Cecilia Smith; a vocal event with many bass players and Tania Grubbs; the avant garde; ragtime and stride; and Pat Metheny.

For this weeks program, an emphasis on the vocalize of Pittsburgh native Eddie Jefferson, and an interview with another Pittsburgh denizen, Allan Harris who will bring his project “The The Genius of Eddie Jefferson” to MCG Jazz on Friday, April 5th. That evening is also a double bill with pianist Fred Hersch and his trio (we also play some of his music on the show, too!)
We also highlight Sun of Goldfinger - a new project with an avant garde supergroup, Tim Berne, David Torn and Chez Smith at Sprit in Lawrenceville, March 20.
We also have: a mini feature on the occasion of today’s March 17th 100th birthday of the great Nat King Cole: Kenia; and one more Sonny Rollins tune, a preview of a tribute to Way Out West on March 19.
The Scene - Thursdays at 6pm, Sundays at 5pm on WZUM.
