Coming home for a brief stay - actor, pitchman and pianist / bandleader Jeff Goldblum - leading a special performance for Pittsburgh CLO at the Benedum Center - Saturday June 1st. Also coming back to visit, trumpeter and vocalist Benny Benack III, Friday night in Indiana for the Westylvania Jazz and Blues Festival

We play music from both of these returnees - and visit with Jeff Goldblum plus bassist and musical director for the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra Alex Frank on the Scene.

This week on the MCG Jazz Spotlight Show, Hosts Marty Ashby and Renee Govanucci preview the artists and music of the upcoming 38th Season, the "Season of Firsts."

The season contains 12 total performances, two of which will involve MCGJazz’s first-ever Artist-In-Residence, Ray Angry.

The MCGJazz Spotlight on WZUM - Friday and Sunday nights at 6, and Saturday afternoon at 1.

We also catch up with Deanna Witkowski - pianist, composer, author and now, DR Deanna Witkowski after successfully defending her dissertation last month at the University of Pittsburgh.

We also remember saxophonist David Sanborn. He passed away May 12th at age 78.

A Billie Holiday Story at the Greer Cabaret Theater - on the Scene

A part of Billie Holiday’s story will be shared at the Greer Cabaret Theater May 17 through June 30th in a new production of Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill starring Gabrielle Lee. The musical play is set in 1959, months before her passing that summer. We share sounds from her Carnegie Hall concert of 1956, around the time of release of her autobiography “Lady Sings the Blues.”
