Topics during the 3 days of workshops will include:
•Overview of Williams's major works from the 1930s-70s with written listening guides
•Role that priests and nuns played in Williams's faith journey as seen through letters to/from Williams in the 1960s-70s
•History of the first Pittsburgh Jazz Festival (founded by Williams and the local Catholic Youth Organization)
•Williams's three jazz Masses- including her first Mass only performed once at St. Paul's Cathedral in Pittsburgh
•Liturgical jazz in the 1960s
•Sheet music and recorded resources for integrating jazz in worship
On June 19, a morning jazz mass and afternoon concert will feature music by Witkowski and Williams as played by Witkowski, with bassist Jeff Grubbs and drummer Thomas Wendt.
