Body Sound, featuring Carolyn Perteete - Afro American Music Institute, Homewood
Painter Kara Bialecki, who is known locally as l’instant, is combining forces with jazz drummer James Johnson III for the second installment of their program ‘Body Sound’.
Body Sound, a mixed media art event that features special guest vocalist Carolyn Perteete and a musical ensemble that includes organist Jerome Kirkland, organist Clifford Barnes, and bassist Jeff Grubbs. The event will also highlight several selections by spoken word poets.
During ‘Body Sound’, l’instant will paint in real time before a live audience while Carolyn Perteete performs alongside the James Johnson Quartet. The performance will also be peppered with spoken word poetry.
The Afro-American Music (AAMI) Institute was selected for the next Body Sound venue due to its cultural significance within the larger Pittsburgh art and music communities. AAMI, located in the heart of Homewood, was founded by Johnson’s parents, Dr. James Johnson Jr. and Ms. Pamela Johnson. The Body Sound event coordinators are excited to bring people into close proximity with the Homewood community, the artists who call it “home”, and the businesses that thrive there.
