We want this session to be as open and welcoming as possible. And, at the same time we want to hold space *specifically* for improvised music. Here are some community guidelines to help us toward those ends.
1: We ask that all improvisors approach one another with openness, respect, and kindness. You do not have to like everything that everyone does, but we do ask that you are respectful of others’ aesthetic choices both on and off the bandstand. (As Pauline Oliveros would say, “lift off judgment.”)
2: Do not impose your aesthetic preferences on other improvisers; instead see what emerges from a musical conversation. No calling tunes of any kind and no band / open mic style sign ups. There are a bunch of great sessions around that focus on genre specific musics. We want to nurture space for something that we feel is generally under represented.
3: There are also a bunch of great open mics around where folks can showcase whatever they want. This is not that space. This is a session for in-the-moment improvisation between people. We want to focus on uplifting this since it is an underrepresented practice.
