A 1992 graduate of Taylor Allderdice H.S. and a native of the Blackridge area in Wilkinsburg, PA, Howie’s passion for music was ignited in a home echoing with the sounds of jazz, R&B, and funk.
A dedicated piano instructor at the Afro-American Music Institute since 1994, and its current Artistic Director, Howie’s musicianship has been shaped by the mentorship of luminaries like Dr. James Johnson Jr., guitarist Jimmy Ponder, and Nelson Harrison of the Count Basie Orchestra.
Doors open at 7:30 PM for an 18+ evening of fun, with a cash bar and light refreshments on hand.
OPEN MIC NIGHT Friday, Feb 16th from 8 PM to 11 PM. Howie Alexander will be hosting a FREE night filled with the best home-grown music, poetry, laughter, and art that Wilkinsburg has to offer. Plus, we’re thrilled to have Bouji Bites as our food vendor, ready to serve up mouthwatering eats all evening!
