Pittsburgh Jazz Legends on WZUM

Thursday night at 6, then again at noon on Friday and Saturday, Sunday at 5 - we dig deep into musical legacies and musical futures on The Scene.

The October 10th Jazz Legends inductions at the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild was a who’s who of the Pittsburgh Jazz Scene. We had our microphone at the ready, and Bill Strickland shares his good wishes and enthusiasm. After the awards and a great show by Ralph Peterson and the Messengers Legacy Band (honoring Pittsburgh native Art Blakey’s Jazz dynasty), there was a jam session and plenty of room for the gathering of jazz luminaries in Pittsburgh.

We visited (and recorded!) with Don Aliquo Jr, and Don Aliquo Sr., Max Leake, Lou Stellute, George Jones, Anton DeFade, Jim Guerra, Rich Zabinski, Dwayne Dolphin, Kenny Blake, Chuck Spatafore, and a delightful interaction between Scott Hanley, Roger Humphries and Michele Bensen. We didn’t get to all of them in this program, so tune in for more, soon!

Join us for conversation and music from Pittsburgh Jazz Legends.

A reminder that Jazz Central is a great place to keep up with so much great music on the Scene!
