May 25 is the big day for the Westsylvania Jazz and Blues Festival in Indiana, PA, and we hear about the beginnings of the event from Dave Ferguson, which harkens back to Pennsylvania history and some stories of rebellion. Featured artists include Dwayne Dolphin, Tom Roberts, Blues Headliner Vanessa Collier; Jazz Educator and Performer Jared Sims and more.
Plus, a talk with Tom Roberts about his musical path, which took him from hearing Jack Bogut on the radio with a Scott Joplin Rag, time on the road with Leon Redbone, to New Orleans, New York, and then back home to Pittsburgh. A facile pianist and champion of early 20th century music, Tom plays for us, too!
We also play music from from Giacomo Gates, Dwayne Dolphin and a new release from Dave Stryker.
The Scene - Thursdays at 6pm, Sundays at 5pm on WZUM.
