Remembering Jimmy Heath in the MCG Jazz Spotlight

Tune in to WZUM Friday and Sunday night at 6, Saturday at one as brothers Marty Ashby, guitarist and Executive Producer of MCG Jazz and trombonist Jay Ashby share music and memories of the great saxophonist, composer, arranger and bandleader Jimmy Heath who died January 20 at the age of 93.

A native of Philadelphia, Jimmy Heath visited Pittsburgh frequently. Jimmy even performed for a special 50th Anniversary Jazz Cruise for WDUQ back in 1999 - sharing the billing with vocalist Sandy Staley as a part of the Mellon Jazz Festival.

As a part of the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band, Marty and Jay Ashby got to spend many weeks in rehearsal, concert and on the road, and they have great music and stories to share.

The connection of the music with the line through Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie and legions more makes for a riveting hour of music and conversation in this MCG Jazz Spotlight Hour on WZUM, the Pittsburgh Jazz Channel!
