Victor Lewis Family.jpeg

This week on the MCG Jazz Spotlight show, Marty Ashby and Renée Govanucci visit, at a distance, with two innovative presenters of jazz in Pittsburgh - Terrri Bell of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and John Shannon of Con Alma.

Terri Bell shares a song of Family from drummer Victor Lewis, who joined Bobby Watson and Horizon early this year, plus an innovative turn on Stevie Wonder’s “Golden Lady” by vocalist Kurt Elling, who was scheduled to perform at the the Greer Cabaret in April.

From John Shannon, music of Thelonious Monk in a trio that features Pittsburgh native Art Blakey on drums, plus a beautiful Johnny Mandel tune from Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden.

We also hear music from deferred MCG Jazz season performers the Yellowjackets, vocalist Tierney Sutton, Ann Hampton Calloway, the SF Jazz Collective and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Also, Marty and Renée share the news that news is coming about rescheduled concerts to be announced next week from the truncated Spring 2020 season.
