The Autumnal Equinox is around the corner, and we are turning to cooler weather in a time when the relatively dry summer and outdoor events have been allowing some rare opportunity for masked jazz musicians and fans to see and hear each other, if at a “social distance.”
The annual B-PEP Jazz Fundraiser will occur, but on September 21, not Easter Monday - and the adoring crowds of jazz fans will have to watch from an online distance to the musical festivities.
We visit with Tim Stevens to talk about the origins of the Jazz event, and how it is adapting to COVID-19 challenges this year.
Plus, sounds from BPEP performers Roger Humphries and Eric Johnson, plus musical memories from departed honorees Bobby Cardillo, Jerry Byrd and Richie Cole - and also sounds from Sandy Staley, Freddie Cole and Bob Dorough.
The Scene - Thursday night at six, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday afternoon at 5 on WZUM
