One of the adaptations in the Pittsburgh Jazz Scene over the past year of lockdown was the MCG Jazz Musicians Performance Fund, with a number of local artists selected to lead ensembles for a livestream performance from the stage of MCG Jazz, supported by the Opportunity Fund, individual donors and media partner WZUM.
One of the great groups for that was led by guitarist Mark Strickland - with Tony DePaolis, bass; and Thomas Wendt, drums. Music of Duke Ellington, Sam Jones, Tadd Dameron and Wes Montgomery in a warm and rich set filled with swing, soul and tradition.
Marty Ashby brings Mark Strickland back to the radio studio to talk about the set that was performed before a small and socially distanced crowd on October 28, 2020.
Great guitar on the MCG Jazz Spotlight show on WZUM - Friday and Sunday nights at 6, and Saturday afternoon at 1.
