Johnny Mercer and Hoagy Carmichael birthday party with Kate Borger

Johnny Mercer and Hoagy Carmichael were two of the 20th century’s most notable writers of American popular song. They were both born in November, and often collaborated on music - they won an Academy Award for best original song in 1951: "In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening".

Kate Borger shares music of Mercer and Carmichael - including The Nearness of You, Skylark, Accentuate the Positive, I Remember You, and, of course, Stardust. Performers include Curtis Fuller, Jazzmeia Horn, Margo Rey, Joshua Redman, Etta James, Bobby Troup, Dr. John and more.

Tune in Friday morning at 10 a.m. and Saturday morning from 11 a.m. until noon on WZUM - the Pittsburgh Jazz Channel. That's wzum.org on the worldwide web.
