This week on the Scene - we check in with John Shannon at Con Alma. The music venue first opened 4 years ago on Ellsworth Avenue, the second location in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District two years ago. Things are still swinging.
Also, John will be traveling to Paris - the one in France - for a recording session for a new album to be released later in the year - and some club dates in France, too.
While John Shannon heads out of the country for a bit - some Pittsburgh originals are coming back home - bassist Richie Goods has a new release out with vibraphonist Chien Chien Lu - and they will be bringing those sounds to the South Park Amphitheater August 4th. They’ll be joined by trombonist Emmett Goods with his band back home, too.
Closer to home, saxophonist Jason Kush, who’s new national release has been getting good notices - plays on the same bill with guitar master John Scofield at Hartwood Acres August 27th.
Jazz / Poetry at City of Asylum / Alphabet City - now in year 19 - continues throughout May on the Northside.. We hear music from some of the artists coming up - Swiss-Albanian singer Elina Duni (May 7 and 8) and Brazilian-American singer-songwriter Alexia Bomtempo (May 14).
Also, sounds from Pittsburgh Natives we home to have visit, soon - Don Aliquo, Jr - his latest is called “Growth” - and another from drummer Jae Sinnett.
