There are a lot of things going on in the jazz scene in Pittsburgh!

This hour, we play a visit with pianist Orrin Evans and Caleb Wheeler Curtis, who were just here in September for the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival. Caleb has a new release out (Ember) and so does Orrin Evans (the Red Door). Orrin will be back in Pittsburgh at Con Alma, December 3.

Bethany James has a new CD (Bethany) with Mark Lucas, Cliff Barnes, Davis Throckmorton and Anton DeFade. Her unveiling event is at Con Alma, November 19. We share a sneak preview cut on the show.

Norside Organ Trio - has new release coming out - there’ll be a special event at the Pittsburgh Winery - November 10. Skip Sanders - organ; Glenn Strother - guitar; Steve Ippolito - drums. Joined by the Steel Town Horns - Reggie Watkins - JD Chaisson - Rick Matt, special guest saxophonist/flutist Abbey Gross - and some other super-secret guest performers.

Darden Purcell is a vocalist and jazz educator - and married to Pittsburgh’s own Sean Purcell - we hear another track from her new one with vibraphonist Joe Locke (Love’s Got Me in a Lazy Mood). They’ll both be back in Pittsburgh on November 24 at Con Alma.
