The PJO in Carnegie for a Night to Remember - June 10 and more in June on the Scene

The Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra Night to Remember at the Carnegie in Carnegie with Anqwenique Wingfield

The Andrew Carnegie Free Library is pulling out all the stops for its 2023 annual benefit! It will be the last benefit before the Music Hall closes for renovations in January 2024.

The show features the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra - comprised of the region’s finest and busiest jazz musicians. However, this fabulous 17-piece ensemble rarely performs as a full band. In terms of both PJO’s sound and size, the acoustically superb Music Hall is a rare, perfect fit! Anqwenique Wingfield, one of Pittsburgh’s most versatile vocalists will join the PJO for the night, too.

We visit with Maggie Forbes about the major event for the Carnegie in Carnegie as the historic facility gets ready for major renovations to the Music Hall in 2024.

We also hear music from other fans of Carnegie - Reggie Watkins (with the new Steeltown Horns release) and famed saxophonist Richie Cole, who spent his last years in Carnegie as his home base for his Pittsburgh period.

Also, guitarist Dan Wilson’s new release, Stephen Phillip Harvey’s Octet, drummer Jae Sinnett, saxophonist Don Aliquo Jr (back in town later this month) and a newly discovered recording of Chet Baker in Holland from 1977.

The Scene - Thursday at 6, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday at 5 on WZUM.
