This week on the MCG Jazz Spotlight Show, hosts Marty Ashby and Renée Govanucci spotlight the music featured in two world premiere ballets commissioned by The Washington Ballet entitled Jazz Icons, for which MCG Jazz served as music director and premiered at the Kennedy Center last week.
Music from the “Coloring Silent Space” ballet features sections by iconic piano players, Chick Corea, Thelonius Monk, Bill Evens and Dodo Marmarosa performed by Craig Davis.
“Midnight Riff” featured music by iconic women of jazz including Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday, and Mary Lou Williams.
