Benny and Teenie and more on the Pittsburgh Scene

The sounds and images of past, present and future are abundant this fall - including a return “home” by trumpeter and crooner Benny Benack III with the national tour of “Some Enchanted Evening,” featuring Benny, new singing phenom Stella Cole, and tap dance standout Jabu Graybeal (fresh off of TV’s “America’s Got Talent”). They will all gather on Tuesday, November 12 at the Byham Theater in the Cultural District.

We visit with Benny Benack III about this show and the tour -and also get a sneak insight into his latest recording project set for release in 2025.

A major new exhibit at the Carnegie Museum of Art opens this weekend with an immersive experience of sights and sounds - a whole new aspect of the Charles “Teenie” Harris photo archive opens Saturday November 2nd - and it is much more than just the legendary black and white photos of “One Shot” Harris.

We talked with Dana Bishop-Root, Director of CMOA’s Education and Public Programs and Charlene Foggie-Barnett, Community Archivist for the Charles "Teenie" Harris Archive at Carnegie Museum of Art.

Plus - as a part of that exhibit opening - Saturday at 2pm will feature a performance by Roger Humphries and the RH Factor in the Carnegie Music Hall, just down the long hall from the Scaife Gallery where the art will be.

Also coming soon to a venue near you - NEA Jazz Masters Reggie Workman Saturday November 2nd for the culminating concert for the 54th Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert week, and November 9th, South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim

The Scene - Thursday at 6pm, Friday and Saturday at noon, Sunday afternoon at 5.
