Season 38 Preview in the MCG Jazz Spotlight - a Season of Firsts. Marty Ashby previews the artists and music of the upcoming 38th Season, the "Season of Firsts” with more details on groundbreaking lineup.

The season contains 12 total performances, two of which will involve MCGJazz’s first-ever Artist-In-Residence, Ray Angry.

The MCGJazz Spotlight on WZUM - Friday and Sunday nights at 6, and Saturday afternoon at 1.

It's Jazz Festival Week - and there's a lot to share - including visits with Emmet Cohen - the story behind his viral YouTube channel - Emmet's Place - and the drummer from Indiana Pa who is joining him this week.

We also visit with Howie Alexander - this year's Jazz Festival Artist in Residence - and hear music from Emmet, Howie and many more.

Sean will lead his own small group for the Jazz festival on Sunday September 22nd, and also be a part of Chris Coles’ “Nine Lives Project” Saturday night September 21st.

We also hear music from other upcoming festival highlights - Orrin Evans and the Captain Black Big Band, Vanisha Gould, Robert Glasper and Emmet Cohen.

We also remember our friend and colleague Evelynn Hawkins, a tremendous voice and supporter of music and community who left as all too soon this week.
