Wherever You Roam
By Kim Maverick
Kim Maverick is a singer-songwriter-scribbler obsessed with the power of storytelling. She sees songwriting as a way to untangle the big emotions caught inside life’s little moments. Kim was born in Canada, raised on soft rock radio and sci-fi novels. She studied classical music composition at the University of Windsor, then tried to forget everything she learned as she toured around dive bars with rock bands. She now spends her days writing for other artists and her nights playing requests at Howl at the Moon piano bar.
I had the idea for this song when I still lived in Canada and was passing through Pennsylvania on a spur-of-the-moment road trip. I never imagined that I’d one day call this state my home! The left hand arpeggios in the main piano riff were inspired by Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude. I've never mastered it, but I loved practicing it in college. Even though today I mostly write and play pop rock music, I’m so grateful for my classical education.
