William Torres - For The Moon By William Torres Jr

William Torres Jr. is a composer, musician, performer, and educator hailing from Lancaster, PA. There isn’t a day of his life where he feels like he hasn’t experienced music. In high school, he performed in as many ensembles as he could, one of them being the marching band where he was Drum Major for 2 years. He also attended various District and All-State festivals during his time in high school.

William, now studying under Nancy Galbraith, has also left no stone unturned during his time at Carnegie Mellon University. He has performed in the choir, Kiltie Band, vocal jazz ensemble, Scotch & Soda, and The Originals, an all-male acapella group where he was Artistic/Music Director for 2 years.

William was first introduced to the art of composing during his sophomore year of high school when his choral teacher asked him to compose an original choral piece for their chamber ensemble. He spent the next months learning about, experimenting with, and experiencing the process of composing from writing the very first note on the page, to the premiere performance the following year.

William uses his musical and life experiences to inform the music he composes. He never writes without intention, and hopes for people to feel the emotion and passion behind the music the same way he does.

William is thankful to his parents and sister for the support they have given him throughout his life. He is also most thankful to God for blessing him with the talent, drive, and passion for music.

William is studying to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Music Composition and pursuing his Music Education Certification at Carnegie Mellon University.

This was actually one of the first songs I ever wrote during my senior year of high school. The song's original purpose, at the time, was to compare someone I was fond of to the Moon. Although that feeling and sentiment is still there, the song's message, at its core, is about appreciating the little things in life. Even the things we tend to overlook or take for granted can have a profound impact on our lives.
