Jimmy Sapienza
We are sorry to report that vocalist and bandleader Jimmy Sapienza has died at the age of 71.
From the notice from the Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home, Jimmy passed on Saturday, February 6, 2021 after a long, courageous battle with kidney disease. Husband of Paula (Bruecken) Sapienza for 25 years, he leaves behind many family members, friends and fans.
His formed the band “Jimmy Sapienza and Five Guys Named Moe in the 1980’s and was featured on many stages and broadcasts over the years, including winning a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award in 2007 for a performance of “Just a Gigolo” on Live from Studio A on WQED-TV. He was also featured on the WDUQ broacast and CD “Last Call at the Balcony,” and continues to be heard on WZUM to this day.
Visitation on Valentine’s Day, Sunday, February 14, from 2-8pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home, 1111 Monroeville Ave., Turtle Creek. At 6pm, there will be an “Open Mic” for folks to share stories, sing a song or play a tune in remembrance and in honor of Jimmy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Maurice Church of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Forest Hills on Monday, February 15, 2021 at 11 a.m. followed by a Presentation of Military Honors.
