The Scene in Pittsburgh for July has more than 180 jazz engagements as seen on Jazz Central.
The jazz return in Pittsburgh includes boats, blues and salsa, too - with a return of the Roger Humphries RH Factor Boat Ride, August 22nd, the Pittsburgh Blues and Roots Festival at the Pittsburgh Shrine Center in Cheswick the weekend of July 31 and August 1st, and an expansion on weekend of music ‘til midnight at the newly opened Con Alma, Downtown.
We visit with Roger Humphries about the just restored boat ride on the rivers, August 22nd, which now features a 9 piece band as well as great singers in the mix.
We talk with John Shannon from the Green Room of Con Alma, downtown, where extra music sets have been added on Fridays and Saturday, and the playing will keep going ‘til midnight.
Plus, a visit with Vanessa Collier, the blues saxophonist and singer/songwriter - she went to Berklee and Studied with sax great Chris Vadala (Chuck Mangione’s band) as a youth and is having a fabulous start to her career as a leader, including a return this weekend to the Blues and Roots Festival in Cheswick.
And, for spice, we add in some sounds from Noel Quintana and the Latin Crew - playing at the Allegheny Overlook popup park on August 3rd for Pittsburgh JazzLive.
There’s more at Jazz Central!
Hear the Scene - Thursdays at 6pm, Sundays at 5pm, Friday and Saturdays at noon on WZUM.
